ACT Resources and Tips

Important update, March 2020:

At this time, the Tennessee Department of Education is working with ACT and anticipate offering additional testing dates.  The ACT will not be administered in the spring of 2020.  Seniors who have not yet taken the ACT will not be required to do so in order to graduate.

At a minimum, juniors who are not able to test later this spring or summer will be able to use the October Senior Retake day. This option will be available for students who successfully tested in the spring or summer and students who will be testing for the first time in the fall.

Preparing for the act

Resources and tips for students and families.

MNPS students come from many diverse backgrounds with different dreams and goals. Some may be college-bound or headed straight into careers, while others hope to enlist in the armed forces. Regardless of their path, we know all students must take the ACT to graduate, and their scores are often part of the measurement of educational success.

新皇冠体育盘口While an ACT score does not define a student’s potential, a score of 21 and above does open doors to increased opportunities - and it can lead to more college scholarships at two- and four-year colleges and universities.

Metro Schools is committed to preparing tomorrow's workforce and, starting as early as pre-K, to helping all students score a 21 or higher on the ACT.

About the ACT

  • The ACT is a college and career readiness exam that covers four areas: English, science reasoning, math and reading.

  • The exam is timed and takes three hours and 30 minutes to complete.

  • A composite score of a 21 (on a scale of 1-36) on the ACT can create more scholarship opportunities.

  • 新皇冠体育盘口All MNPS juniors have the opportunity to sit for the ACT at no cost during the regular school day.

    • The ACT test date previously scheduled for March 31 has been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and resulting closure of schools through at least April 24.

  • If you are working on raising your score, you can take the ACT more than once. Colleges or universities will take your highest composite score.
