Student Workspace Tips
A designated workspace for your student can improve their attention, focus, and productivity. Their workspace at home does not have to look like the classroom, and it does not have to be magazine-perfect. Here are tips from the Metro Schools student support staff to help set up a personalized space, with organized access to materials to help students be successful in their home learning.
Seek your child’s input: Ask your child to write down the things that are important to them for the space. Read the list together and use it to plan the space.
Questions to consider: Does your child prefer to share space with other children in the home or work alone? Which of these works best for the household?
Offer choices: Can different areas of your home be used at different times? Fill a jar with popsicle sticks labeled with different location options (e.g., find a comfortable spot with a clipboard, work outside) or use the – a spin-the-wheel decision-maker app – to pick a location to work.
Lighting: Natural light? A lamp? A string of twinkle lights? Think fun and function.
Display your child's work in their workspace.
Access to Materials
新皇冠体育盘口Think about tech: Is the WiFi accessible? Is there an outlet nearby? Are usernames and passwords visible?
新皇冠体育盘口Don’t forget basic supplies. These should be easy to access. Remember to have extras on hand.
Try to have any special or extra materials ready for when they are needed.

is July 31 to August 2. Eligible items include school supplies and clothing.
Organizational tools like folders and baskets can help students clearly separate subjects and put work that isn’t currently being used out of sight & mind
Consider your child’s age and the traffic in the area
Ensure that the TV and other common distractors are turned off
Headphones can limit noise and improve focus, particularly if others are working nearby
Use an object to signal that a common space is ready for “school” (e.g., a pencil box on the table to indicate that it is set up for school)
The space you create may need to be adjusted. These are unusual times. We can all only do our best.
